8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall. FIRST PRINTING. 398 pages. Illustrated. Insights, interviews and retrospectives, etc. The Thomas More Medal winning account of the 1972 crash of Uruguayan Air Force Flight 571 in the Andes mountains--and the survival of 16 (out of 45) members of the Uruguayan Rugby team)--by the Hawthornden Prize, Somerset Maugham Award and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize winning author of A SEASON IN THE WEST and MONK DAWSON. The book was published 2 years after the rescue and it served as the basis for the 1993 film adaptation ALIVE: THE MIRACLE OF THE ANDES--directed by Frank Marshall, narrated by John Malkovich and starring Ethan Hawke, Vincent Spano and John Hamilton. In addition, a companion documentary, ALIVE: 20 YEARS LATER was released at the same time as the film and it includes interviews with the survivors--as well as documentary footage of the rescue. A very good reading copy in pictorial wrappers with mild to moderate wear on its corners and along its edges. Thin black sharpie mark on its bottom textblock edge. The text is very clean and sound. No reading creases on its spine.
