Following a structured outline, each chapter begins with learning objectives and key terms. The body of each chapter mimics the seven step programming process.
During the first step, "Understanding the Problem, " the student is guided in running that chapter's application and noticing its new features. In the second step, "Design a Solution, " the new features necessary for the chapter's application are discussed in detail. The third step, "Develop an Algorithm, " is devoted to program logic. Beginning with Chapter Three, this includes the table of contents as well as pseudocode for individual procedures. Step 4, "Design the GUI, " contains all of the property settings needed for the graphical interface. Step 5 presents the complete coding for the program and any needed explanations. Step 6, as appropriate, discusses testing and debugging of the program. Finally, Step 7 describes documentation that must be completed.
