Wog Tegethoff traces Mies's maturation as a thinker and builder during the 1920s. Richard Pommer expalins Mies's political ideology as well as that of architects of the modern movement in the context of the Weimar years and the first years of the Third Reich. Further essays examine tradition & modernity in Mies's lifework and his achievements as educator and architect during his years in America. All essays are illustrated with material from the Mies van der Rohe Archive at the Museum of Modern Art and with photogrpahs from various other sources, a number of them never before published.
