Roman Baroque Sculpture the Industry of Art
- Binding: Hardcover
- Publisher: Yale Univ Pr
- Publish date: 09/01/1989
Description:
This book is based on the lectures I gave as Slade Professor of the History of Art in Cambridge, in the autumn of 1980. At that time I had completed the draft of the text of my book on Alessandro Algardi, and had, in writing it, become very much aware of how little was known about what I came to call 'the industry of art'. - From preface by the author.Although the material is drawn from the sculpture of Rome during the seventeenth century, the questions examined have a more general application. They raise fundamental matters of sculptural practice, and many of the answers proposed here will hold good of other cities, and other time.
