A bolt of universal lightning, and brothers Tashum and Paladin are banished to Earth along with one third of all angels. Tashum lands near an island that would later be named Bermuda. Scarred from the heat of his descent, he becomes nocturnal, staring into the night with owl's eyes, wondering about the other immortals now scattered around the globe and the secret that will allow him to re-enter Heaven.

1509 AD

After spending millennia alone, Tashum discovers a ship hung up on a reef and saves its two inhabitants. Fanny and Dickey had been saved once before by a being with owl's eyes who gave them a transmission of his celestial blood. Tashum recognizes his brother in the tale and sets off on a quest to find Paladin, encountering betrayals, passions, and perhaps the truth.
