Description:
David Herter's first novel, Ceres Storm, was recently published to widespread acclaim: "A rousing ride. Imaginative, inventive, gripping", said Jack McDevitt. Now Herter moves from SF to fantasy in Evening's Empire, and to a more literary mode of storytelling, in homage to Gene Wolfe's Peace.

This is an ambitious contemporary fantasy novel set on the Oregon coast, in a town famous for its cheese industry. A young man from outside moves to town, finds love, and discovers many strange things (other than cheese sculptures), including a secret underground world in a cavern under the town. In some ways like the Newford stories of Charles de Lint, this is a literate fantasy by an interesting new writer from the Pacific Northwest.
