Ridiculed by all but her animal friends, Fia spends her days inventing games of the earth rather than the sky. Only Kip, the fairy boy she unexpectedly meets, shows her any kindness, by inviting her to the May Dance. Fia is hesitant to attend, but Frog, Crow, and Rat persuade her to join the revels. To her astonishment, she is soon swept into the air for a spellbinding dance with Prince Hyacinth -- only to be brought back to earth by the outraged cries of the Queen . . . followed by the horrible kidnapping of the fairies!
