Large paperback, illustrated card stock glossy covers; stapled binding; card stock heavy pages w/ 10-in. tall character dolls for cutting out. 32 p. 15 color plates. Audience: Children/juvenile. Born circa 1451 of Spanish parents in Italy, Christopher Columbus became a sailor as a teen and learned the science and languages of the sea: navigation, geography, astronomy, and cartography. He married a high-born Portuguese woman who's father had been a captain with Prince Henry the Navigator. This positioned him well to become and overseas explorer, and in 1492, his landings in the Americas have become historically iconic. These paper dolls and changes of clothing are a hands-on cutting project for children to play-act this adventurer, his family members, other captains, and the king and queen who sponsored him. It's also a great adult 'party game' or collectible. Columbus's story is told inside the covers, accompanied by details of each character 'doll'. The text is in English, and the names of the characters are both in English and Spanish.
