Trapped in the wake of a world that has left him behind, Slocum, former software engineer and rider on the tech wave, finds himself both literally and figuratively adrift. His job gone, his wife and child now living across the harbor with a leader of the Hawkleyite underground, Slocum wants to find the Mechanic and repair his wounded sloop so that he can sail free of the harbor and of the past that haunts him. But things do not work out quite as planned, and soon Slocum finds himself part of something much larger and even more terrifying than the battle within himself.
