Focusing on the unique history of design during the 20th century, this book is as beautiful to look at as it is exciting to read. It contains more than 580 color photographs covering a wide spectrum of objects from furniture, glass, ceramics, and metalware to industrial products and household appliances.
"Although it is full of illustrations, I would have liked even more. After all, the book is supposed to cover the entire scope of the modern era. Also, as I read along, I found myself looking for more summaries. For example, illustrated timelines juxtaposing the different movements and designers vis-a-vis other art and political milestones would have made the book more appealing to a wider audience.
In the final analysis, the book serves my noble design cause with an entertaining, albeit narrow approach. Although the reader may be left asking for more, many pertinent facts are there. At the very least, it may whet your appetite to gain a better understanding of any aspect of design."
