Description: Christo, at best a reluctant wizard, is supposed to save civilization by leading a group of people into a new world. If he fails, creation will fall into darkness and evil, even worse than the "great burning" that has left the land and the people scarred. Maddened by the gifts of magic, including an imperfect control of prophecy that leaves much unseen, he sees his friends and followers, and even whole cities, destroyed by the followers of the dragon. The ultimate evil arises in a city of women warriors, and Christo must destroy it. Several factors make this the most difficult challenge Christo has ever faced. The ultimate evil is his nephew, son of his sister Azeela and his best friend Lucan. The boy, more beast than man, wants to rule all creation and all the forces of magic, and he will do it if he can destroy Christo.
