Description: Garret Chatfield Pier (1875-1943) was a British-born American author and archaelogist. He served as a Lieutenant in the Old Guard Volunteer Regiment, New York, during the Spanish-American War and became a member of the state founders committee of the Woodrow Wilson Foundation in 1921. He was the author of several books on archaeological subjects and antiquities, including Inscriptions of the Nile Monuments, Historical Scarabs, Pottery of the Near East, and Temple Treasures of Japan, and also wrote a play entitled The Jeweled Tree: an Egyptian Dramatic Phantasy. This novel published in 1921 is also based around his knowledge of Ancient Egyptian history, telling the story of Professor Steven Ranney, the leader of a Yale expedition to Egypt, who plunges back in time into the midst of a lost world where he falls in love with Queen Hanit who bears an exact resemblance to Susan, his 20th-century love interest.
