Description: South East England has been invaded, and Gwen and the Royal Sorcerers Corps are helping to fight off French magicians and drive the invaders back into the Channel. When an inexperienced major disobeys orders, sending 200 hussars to their death, Gwen compels him to sit down and shut up, but it permanently damages his mind. Afterwards Lord Mycroft suggests she needs to be less prominent for a while. The colonies are also under attack, so he sends her to New York to train the few locals with any magical talent. She sets off on HMS Duke of India, along with Irene Adler and Irene's new apprentice Raechel Slater-Standish, accompanying a naval squadron and a regiment being sent to reinforce colonial defences. But even before they reach New York they meet armed opposition.
