The first part serves as the framework for presenting the instructional intentions and offers separate units that show students how the choices that writers make help convey their ideas to an audience. The second part organizes readings in seven thematic clusters and offers a pedagogy to help students explore each reading according to the framework established in part one. A consistent pattern of questions is used to guide writers in understanding how the interaction between readers and writers is established and how to use those questions to make strategic choices in their own writing.
