Description:
In 1910 fourteen-year-old Jennifer Owens finds a baby abandoned in a field. The baby is taken to an orphanage and the incident seems a nine-days' wonder, soon forgotten, but as Jennifer becomes a woman its repercussions become apparent. A chance glimpse of the handsome Barry Moore soon has Jennifer pining for a life beyond the confines of her upbringing, but the Great War takes him out of England before she has a chance with him. During the war, however, young Jennifer comes into her own, acting in her first moving picture, and helping the formidable Mrs. Colston-Smart run a convalescent home for wounded soldiers. Mrs. Colston-Smart's son, Douglas, is one of Cornwall's most eligible bachelors, and he forms an unexpected bond with Jennifer. When she tells him of her childhood encounter with the abandoned baby, he turns amateur sleuth in an attempt to find out more about the child's fate, making some startling discoveries... When Barry shows up in the convalescent home, Jennifer believes their future together is assured, but war has a way of changing one's plans.
