"I actually think writing and prosecuting dovetail nicely", Reuland comments. "The purpose of both is to tell a story in a convincing way that you hope will stir somebody into action, or at least alter their life in some way".
The charismatic antihero of his compelling debut novel, Hollowpoint, is also a prosecutor roaming Brooklyn's cruelest districts. What Rob Reuland has seen there he spills onto the pages with force, urgency, and mordant wit, pulling the reader into the killing streets, the crowded courtrooms, the interrogation cells, the shadowy bars, and the hidden mercies.
"I don't think of my book as exclusively a crime novel but rather a novel about crime, and yet it is set far more graphically in the actual world of crime than you generally read in books or see on television", Reuland says. "I know firsthand how homicides are committed, investigated, and prosecuted. I tried to imbue the book with the details and the truth of my working life".
