Description: Young Tom Falconer never knew his parents. Raised by scheming criminals in the English countryside, Tom yearns for a better life and is confused yet grateful when a servant to the queen arrives to take him to London. Unfortunately, Tom's savior never makes it back alive, murdered by Tom's criminal friends. Tom, however, escapes on horseback. He soon finds himself in London, penniless and awestruck. A young pickpocket girl named Moll Cutpurse takes a shine to Tom, though, and helps him audition for a new play by a struggling writer named Will Shakespeare. Tom doesn't get the part, but is hired by a mysterious group of players to perform in a play called "The Devil and His Boy, " which is to be presented before the queen. Before Tom realizes it, he has become part of an elaborate plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth. Fortunately, Tom acts in time, but is accused of treason and sentenced to hang. But with help from Moll, Tom is cleared, only to discover the shocking reason he was sent for -- he is the illegitimate grandson of Queen Elizabeth.
