Description:
Handel produced these anthems in 1727 for the coronation of George II. Taken together, they represent a superb example of the ceremonial music at which Handel excelled. The four anthems are: "Zadok, the Priest, " with its deceptively simple introduction of stringed instruments that explodes with the entrance of the chorus; "The King shall rejoice, " an even more elaborate and polyphonic piece; "My heart is inditing, " a warm and delicate accompaniment to the part of the ceremony where the Queen was crowned; and the magnificent conclusion, "Let Thy hand be strengthened." A true expression of Handel's genius, these masterpieces are reproduced here from an early authoritative edition.
