Description: Pacific People and Society introduces the reader to the social issues of the Pacific. A succession of different groups of people have moved through the islands with changes to the societies of the Pacific varying from island to island. Some areas having little change and others having changed greatly. World War II, nuclear testing, tourism, revolution, and colonialism are just a few postwar examples of the factors that have changed Pacific societies in a short period of time. The text uses an inquiry approach and examines many current issues that are not only Pacific but global--nuclear testing, refugee migration, military bases. Questions throughout the text ask students to form opinions in the light of the evidence, and helps them perceive life and change on Pacific islands.
