In January 1836, General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was faced with an uprising of Americans in the Mexican state of Texas. The settlers were seeking independence. Determined to regain control, Santa Anna led his troops across the Rio Grande toward San Antonio, Texas. On March 6, 1836, the quiet of the morning was broken by a blaring bugle, and one of the bloodiest and most dramatic battles of all time had begun.
