Description:
The stories in this incandescent, devilishly hilarious collection celebrate the quirkiness of the human condition and the everyday deviance of ordinary people. A retired grocer takes up jewel theft in his twilight years; a data processor squanders her inheritance on a gown from Princess Diana's collection; a mugging victim, newly separated from his wife, feigns amnesia to win back her love; and a teenage pyromaniac finds comfort in the company of her mother's jilted second husband. Written in sharp, incisive prose, each story provides a fresh, penetrating, and mischievous perspective on the human condition that is "rueful, funny, resonant, tender, and rugged" (The Baltimore Sun).
