Description:
Every summer Mags and Cody stay with Gramps and Grandma at their farm. The first summer after Grandma dies, her absence is like a sad song sounding through the house, and Cody asks if the bluebirds have left because Grandma is gone. Mags remembers that Grandma grew the bluebirds' favorite plants in her marvelous maze of a garden, so she immediately starts puttering about in the weed-smothered soil just the way Grandma used to. By the end of summer, Mags has a glorious garden, Cody has a bluebird house, Gramps is sounding like Gramps again, and Grandma is all around them. An intergenerational story about family, great loss, and nurturing compassion. Includes a note about bluebirds, bluebird nesting boxes, bluebird habitats, and bluebird societies.
