Description:
"Tell me a story...". For all of history, parents, teachers and clergy have used tales and stories to pass on the truths of faith to their children. The richness and imagery of a good story enables us to see the ways of God in a unique and special way. In his recent Encyclical on the Arts, Pope John Paul II has drawn attention to the special role of the arts and literature in the formation of conscience and the moral imagination. In Tales of God, Brother Michel has gathered together some of the greatest tales of Christianity ever written. He has especially concentrated on the great classics of Catholic literature, with writers like G.K. Chesterton, Leo Tolstoy, Graham Greene, Oscar Wilde, Flannery O'Connor, J.F. Powers, Robert Hugh Benson and many others. Part I consists of nine stories that can be shared by the entire family. They can be read by children, parents and teachers, silently, or in a group, where one reader entertains the family or class by reading the story aloud. Part II of the anthology is designed for the adult and adolescent reader. Each of the four great tales contained in this section address adult issues of faith, authenticity and witness. Parents, teachers and young adults can use these stories as a basis for discussion on some of the most fundamental issues of religious faith. All of these stories have been judged as great literature by critics of the past and present. It is hoped that they will provide spiritual growth and enjoyment for readers today.
