It is true that these gentlemen are present for the purpose of assisting the Court towards a right opinion, but the chief help they give consists in marshalling the evidence; a great portion of their addresses is too highly coloured to aid in the right solution of the problem. At the same time, it not unfrequently happens that some members of the jury are more affected by the eloquence of the Bar than by the facts revealed through careful examination. The case of Greece has been ably pleaded by many writers during the last fifty years, and I do not presume to act as a leader.
