In each of these novels his skill as a story-teller was evident. But in A Prince of Sinner Mr. Oppenheim was a really ahead of Mr. Joseph Chamberlain in attempting to show, through the vehicle of fiction, that the salvation of the English workingman is dependent upon the restoration of a protective tariff in his country. Yet in this book the tariff discussion plays but a small part, the real story being the eventful career and love affairs of Kingston Brooks, the hero, and his relations with Lord Arranmore, the Prince of Sinners. Mr. Oppenheim, although born and educated in England, married in 1892 Miss Elsie Hopkins of Boston, he resided at Leicestershire. He was a member of the Savage and the Authors Clubs, and his favourite sport was golf .
