All That Is Glorious Around Us Paintings from the Hudson River School
- Binding: Hardcover
- Publisher: Cornell Univ Pr
- Publish date: 09/01/1997
John Driscoll's introductory essay surveys the ideas, events, and figures of the Hudson River School movement, and explores the diversity of nineteenth-century Romantic American landscape painting. Highlighted in the pages that follow are works by such well-known figures as Thomas Cole, John F. Kensett, Sanford Gifford, Frederic Church, William Trost Richards, and Worthington Whittredge, as well as outstanding examples of work by significant, lesser-known artists, such as Eliza Greaterex, Laura Woodward, Regis Gignoux, Ernest Lotichius, and Robert Duncanson, the most illustrious African American artist associated with the School.
All that Is Glorious around Us is published in conjunction with an exhibition organized by the Westmoreland Museum of American Art, Greensburg, Pennsylvania, for the late summer of 1997, and is scheduled to travel to the Palmer Museum at The Pennsylvania State University, the Worcester Art Museum in Worcester, Massachusetts, and other major museums throughout the Northeast. The exhibition is based on an extraordinary private collection, acquired over more than forty years, which is one of the most comprehensive ever assembled.
