Description:
Destined for the priesthood by his father, Alphonse Mucha (Czech, 1860-1939) instead became one of the most renowned poster designers of the Art Nouveau period. He produced postcards, panels (panneaux decoratifs), stamps, and other commercial products in addition to his celebrated posters. His designs involve exotic motifs, beautiful women, and flowing lines. Among the reproductions in this calendar are his landmark Gismonda poster designed for actress Sarah Bernahardt; several advertisements, including one for the Austrian Pavilion at the 1900 World Fair; and three plates with dual images, Dusk/Dawn, Topaz/Ruby, and Flowers.
