Description:
The story of Angus, the Jack Russell terrier, begins one night at The Star Inn, a pub in a dreary Cornish village at the far western tip of England. Chuck Siebert is there with his wife, Bex, when the conversation turns to dogs. The pub tender brings out a classified ad in the weekly paper for Jack Russell terriers, and the next night they find themselves traveling to a farm in Devon where little Angus lived. From the moment he is whisked out of the tranquility of the cattle farm, Angus begins fearlessly testing life's limits. It's this fierce, irrepressible nature that leads him to an early death on the edge of the new world forest of Wickerby.
Through adventures in London's Soho, the chilly hold of the jet he flew back to the States in, the wilds of Brooklyn, and the extant wilderness of Wickerby, Siebert describes Angus's uniquely indomitable spirit. The rollicking (and at times heart wrenching) biography of Angus, is part travelogue -- with Siebert commenting on everything from fox hunting in Britain to the dog walking culture in Prospect Park, Brooklyn -- and part bestial biography that ultimately questions the remorselessness of wilderness, the inherently ambiguous nature of our relationship to it, and the unalterable path of Angus's last days there.
