Having served with equal employment agencies for the US and state governments, Wolkinson (labor and industrial relations, Michigan State U.) studied employment discrimination against women in Israel in the 1970s, and returned in the 1990s to investigate discrimination against Arabs, who number one-fifth of the country's population. He interviewed some 75 labor and management representatives, most of whom were extremely candid on condition of anonymity, and recruited a team to interview Arab workers. Clearly he discovered something worth writing a book about.
