Description:
Born out of a need for a bomber superior in performance to the B-17, the B-24 Liberator first went into action over the Pacific in 1942. When the D variant proved underarmed against Nazi fighters, Consolidated introduced the B-24J with a powered nose turret and extra armor. Eventually B-24 groups also saw action in the Pacific with the Australian Royal Air Force and with the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
