Note to Parents and Teachers
The fun continues after the story is finished! As part of the Dragonfly Difference, we've included two pages of activities inspired by this story. We hope you'll enjoy them with a child after reading this Dragonfly Book.
Dragonfly's Coming and Going
Mommy Goat comes back to Georgie, just as she promised. So do Georgie's ball and Grandpa Goat. Have you ever gone away and come back? Where did you go? Whom did you leave behind? How did you feel when you returned?
On a separate piece of paper, draw a picture of the place you visited. Be sure that your picture includes lots of colors, just like the ones in this book!
Dragonfly's Busy Box
When Georgie Goat's mommy goes out for the day, Georgie spends the time playing with Grandpa Goat. Have some fun in your own home by making a busy box. Ask an adult for a medium-size cardboard box. Decorate the outside with colored markers, crayons, or stickers. Fill the box with your favorite games and books, like Brave Georgie Goat. You can also add paper, pencils, and crayons for writing and illustrating your own stories. Pick an activity and let the fun begin!
Dragonfly's All Grown Up
Georgie Goat learns to be brave in all three of the stories in this book. What has she been worried about? How does she overcome her fears? Have you ever been afraid of something? How did youconquer your fears?
Make a medal to show everyone how brave you are!
1. Have an adult help you cut out a circle from a piece of paper.
2. Write your name in the center, then decorate your medal with glitter or stars.
3. Have an adult help you punch a small hole at the top of your medal, then thread a piece of yarn through the hole and tie the yarn ends together.
Put on your bravery medal for everyone to see!
Dragonfly's Crafts Corner
When Georgie's coat no longer fits, Mommy Goat turns it into many new things for Georgie to use. You can make a special pillow with a scrap of something you've outgrown!
You'll need:
-- scissors
-- glue
-- 2 square pieces of felt
-- a needle and thread
-- cotton balls
1. Ask an adult to help you cut a small piece of fabric from an old coat, shirt, blanket, or pair of pants.
2. Glue your fabric scrap onto a piece of felt. When the glue is dry, place the decorated felt square on top of the plain piece of felt.
3. Have an adult sew the square pieces together along three of the edges, leaving the fourth side open.
4. Carefully stuff the cotton balls between the felt pieces until your pillow is full.
5. Have an adult sew the final side closed.
Place your pillow in a special place and enjoy!
