Description:
Brick by Brick is the memoir of Lynn Donohue, a scrappy 15-year-old dropout from New Bedford, Massachusetts who became the first and only female bricklayer in her region. Working out of a reluctant union, she excelled in her field despite constant taunts and harassment from her male co-workers. Lynn persevered and was able to rebuild her life brick by brick, coming to terms with her tumultuous childhood and adolescence -- a journey that is gripping, sometimes maddening and always engrossing. She went on to educate herself in the field of construction and formed her own company, eventually employing 50 bricklayers, including some who had tried to drive her out of the trade. All became hard-working, loyal employees. Lynn's successful career has enabled her to establish the Brick by Brick Foundation on behalf of dropouts and others who need a helping hand getting started on the road to more successful, rewarding careers.
