Continuing a two-year program to bring back twenty-two Maurice Sendak treasures long out of print, our third season celebrates the collaborations between Maurice Sendak and both his father, Philip, and his brother, Jack.
Storytelling and book-making began in the Sendak family with Philip telling his children wonderful stories about his own boyhood in Europe. Soon Jack was making up his own stories and Maurice would illustrate them on cardboard. They carefully bound the stories and art into books and thus began one of the most illustrious careers in American art.
Maurice Sendak credits both his father and his brother for his love of books, and so HarperCollins is delighted to reintroduce the three books described on this page -- together with two classics Maurice wrote and illustrated early in his career.
