How can the rapid transformation of fashion be reconciled with the stability of architecture? Perhaps, things were not always like this, partly because historical distance makes us concentrate the Stylistic needs of a particular age into longer periods, partly because the acceleration of change has become the main expressive means of present-day society. Fashion and social behaviour are significant materials that offer points of reference and content for the practice of architecture and visual arts. This issue of Rassegna addresses the problem by comparing the reflections of some prominent thinkers on the subject, from Georg Simmel at the end of the last century to Roland Barthes in the 1960s. It will compare similarities and contrasts between architectural and fashion production through the study of product designs.
