Description:
So begins a mysterious, meditative poem for all ages about the first discoverers of America -- fish, birds, then man. But it is also about other discoverers: in particular, Joseph Brodsky, who immigrated to the United States after being expelled from the Soviet Union; and in general, all who have the chance to experience America. Brodsky ultimately roses a crucial question to the reader: "Don't you think that this land still has a few / secrets? That, huge and silent, it waits for their being discovered by you ... ?" Vibrantly illustrated in collage and gouache by Vladimir Radunsky, this poem is, finally, a celebration of a woad open to possibilities.
