Description:
Some people who love to ride horses participate in equestrian events -- horseback riding competitions. This book describes in detail the following Summer Olympics equestrian events: show jumping (in which the horse jumps over 15 to 20 obstacles such as fences and water), dressage (in which the rider cues the horse to make various kinds of movements), and three-day eventing (in which the horse and rider compete in dressage the first day, run in challenging races the second day, and compete in show jumping the third day). Next, the book discusses other equestrian events that are not included in the Olympics: endurance riding (in which the horses run over very long trails), combined driving (in which the rider sits in a carriage and drives the horse from behind), and reining (which shows the skills of ranch horses.
