Description:
Begun in 1971, Earth's Daughters has the distinction of being the longest running feminist periodical in the country. Fine China represents the best of twenty years of poetry, prose, and graphics from Earth's Daughters magazine. Poet Judith Kerman, one of its founding editors, gave the magazine its name, inspired by Emma Goldman's Mother Earth. Joined by Lillian Robinson and Elaine Rollwagen, the trio edited the magazine until the sixth issue when the editorial board expanded into a women's collective which continues to evolve. From the beginning, Earth's Daughters published writing and artwork by both well-known and unknown women (and, as they say, a few good men). In the process, some of the unknown have become more known and others are still awaiting wider recognition. The writers here include Denise Levertov, Marge Piercy, Olga Brumas, Colette Inez, Diane DiPrima, Lyn Lifshin, Tony Ortner Zimmerman, Becky Birtha, Sharon Olds, Thulani Davis, Ed Sanders, Joel Oppenheimer, Gabrielle Burton, Janine Pommy Vega, and many others.
