Description:
Dirk Pitt becomes suspicious of a wealthy Chinese gangster who is making a fortune smuggling Chinese immigrants to countries around the world, including the U.S. The villain's plan is to blow up a levee and divert the course of the Mississippi River so that it flows right to his shipping port, making him another fortune. Pitts' efforts to stop him lead him to the Great Lakes where he discovers that the villain is searching for the ship that Chiang Kai Shek filled with treasure when he fled China in 1949, and that sank in the Great Lakes years ago.
