Description:
Ho'opilipili 'Olelo is intended to serve as a basic educational resource for those interested in improving their use and mastery of the Hawaiian language. Students of all ages and native speakers of Hawaiian will find the forty crossword puzzles and eight word search puzzles an entertaining and challenging way to practice their Hawaiian language vocabulary and word usage. The book consists of eight thematic puzzle sections centered around areas of cultural life basic to the survival of early native Hawaiian settlers: ali'i, kalo, kapa, la'au, manu, moana, 'aina, and 'uala (royalty, taro, tapa, plants, birds, ocean, land, and sweet potatoes). Each section begins with an extensive Hawaiian language word list relating to the section theme. The word list is followed by a word search puzzle requiring the reader to find and circle twelve words from the jumble of letters in the puzzle squares. Each word search puzzle is followed by the section's crossword puzzles.
