Description:
This collection presents Shellburne Thurber's extraordinary photographs of rooms in abandoned homes in the South. Once symbols of familial continuity and stability, these discarded houses are now inflected by age and neglect. Capturing light passing through the rooms, Thurber documents her experience of these decaying homes, and the ability of light to evoke a range of emotional response. Thurber captures the strangely compelling aesthetic of decay as well as the haunting, ethereal, and melancholy tone of the interiors. Thurber currently lives and works in Boston. A graduate of Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in 1975, she has exhibited in numerous galleries both national and international. Her work was included in the critically acclaimed Boston School exhibition.
