When her hearing loss was finally identified, it did little good: at the time, there were no effective hearing aids for her type of impairment. Kathy's problems were compounded by an almost unbelievable series of events, including being run over by a car and pronounced dead, surviving numerous catastrophic accidents, and being diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Kathy's life has been enough to "make strong men crumble" in the words of Rex Reed. But "If you Could Hear what I See" doesn't just focus on the hardships Kathy has overcome; it's also full of stories about the people and events that transformed her. Much of this heartfelt memoir is devoted to the men, women, and children whose courage and resilience gave Kathy strength and who continue to inspire her to this day.
