Description:
"If you Could Hear what I See" roughly follows the course of Kathy Buckley's life, beginning in small-town Wickliffe, Ohio, and ending in Los Angeles on the night she wins the Ovation Award for Don't Buck with Me, her one-woman Broadway show. Mistaken for being retarded by the adults who didn't recognize her hearing impairment, Kathy spent her grammar school years in and out of special schools. When her hearing loss was finally identified, it did little good: at the time, there were no effective hearing aids for her type of impairment. Kathy's problems were compounded by an almost unbelievable series of events, including being run over by a car and pronounced dead, surviving numerous catastrophic accidents, and being diagnosed with cervical cancer.

Kathy's life has been enough to "make strong men crumble" in the words of Rex Reed. But "If you Could Hear what I See" doesn't just focus on the hardships Kathy has overcome; it's also full of stories about the people and events that transformed her. Much of this heartfelt memoir is devoted to the men, women, and children whose courage and resilience gave Kathy strength and who continue to inspire her to this day.
