Description:
A stunning new book from distinguished photographer Sheila Metzner -- her first book of pure landscape. In Inherit the Earth, more than sixty full-page landscape photographs are arranged in sections that flow in an almost musical sequence of color and form, from the raw umbers of the Mojave desert to the stones of Easter Island to the lush greens of Costa Rican rainforests, to the indescribable blues of Alaskan icebergs. Her message ts implicit: the earth she reveals still exists in these ancient forms, but it is a delicate and precious legacy to be protected. These landscape images have a transcendent quality; they are preternaturally still, simple, and elegant and evoke the awe and spirit of peaceful majesty.
Since 1982, Metzner has developed this body of landscape photographs in tandem with her more familiar work as a commercial fashion and portrait photographer. The book is shot from her originals (for the first time) -- images are printed in the "Fresson" process, a labor-intensive four or more color process that renders pigment prints with a sensuous tonality and a matte finish that Metzner describes as looking like a "glaze on fine porcelain".
Showcased in this splendid volume with oversized trim, Metzner's incomparable images inspire us all to discover and protect the earth's majesty.
