Description: Jam#2: London -- Tokyo is a follow up to the highly popular exhibition of the same name, staged in London in 1996. The first Jam focused on cutting-edge London style, music, and media and was heralded as a groundbreaking event, unique in its mix of creative ideas, disciplines and personalities. Coinciding in London with the Japan Festival UK 2001, Jam#2 will be a timely celebration of design and artistic innovation at the interface of fashion, graphics, photography, music and media in Tokyo and London. Jam#2 is about urban/street energy, a network of connections, and the flow of ideas. It represents some of the most vital contemporary designs coming out of these two cities today and explores a broad range of innovative and experimental work in media as diverse as fine art, graphic design and photography. Digital media is also featured from videos to games. All reflect the texture of urban living and attitudes. Many of the artists and designers from both Tokyo and London are working at the forefront of the art/design/music scene and their work reflects the importance of new technology and popular visual culture.

With Jam#2: London -- Tokyo, new Japanese talent comes to London, much of it previously unseen, just as London design will travel to Tokyo in a global cultural exchange that celebrates the vitality of urban culture in the 21st century. Published in association with the Barbican Art Gallery, London
