Description: The Little Big Hill is a story about the Vietnam war, told from the perspective of the soldier on the ground. It is Christmas, 1971, at Bien Hoa, a large rear-area base near Saigon. The war is winding down; in Paris, American and North Vietnamese negotiators are discussing peace; in the U.S., President Nixon is starting his re-election campaign. But at Bien Hoa, even though the traditional three-day Christmas cease fire has been announced, survival is the foremost concern of the newly-arrived commanding general of the historically famous 1st Cavalry Division, the military unit of Generals Custer and MacArthur. The base is a strategic target for the Viet Cong, who might try to destroy a barracks full of soldiers or a vast store of munitions and equipment.

Author Robb Lucas tells a riveting story about the events that occurred and the men who took part in them. He has created unforgettable literary characters, Sergeant William Deagle, Corporal Cleveland Pomeroy, Brigadier General Jeffrey Webb, and many others who remind us of the intense emotions that tore apart a nation and the impact that participation in an unpopular war would have on the soldiers who fought that war.

It is time in our nation's history to go back and to look objectively at the Vietnam war and how it changed the lives of a generation of Americans and the nation itself. The Little Big Hill contributes a small piece of that retrospective. It tells the story of the "grunt" or "groundpounder" who, trying primarily to get out of Vietnam alive, had always to keep in mind the reception he or she would receive when they returned to "the world".

It is harshly brutal in its description of the enemy-Vietnamese men, women, and children who were fighting their own patriotic war and who were capable of subservience during the day and administering death at night. It is a poignant story of men at war and the conflicting forces, emotions, and political considerations that dictated the events in their lives.
