Lotus defined groupware for the industry with Notes, and they still dominate the market. In its 5th major revision, Lotus Notes has thousands of add-in applications and has achieved a level of maturity that its competition (Novell Groupwise and Microsoft Exchange) won't be able to rival for some time. Lotus advanced its market position further when they recently leapt into the Web Application Server Market with Domino, Lotus' Web server. Very exciting technologies are being incorporated into Notes/Domino 4.5 which will be covered for advanced readers in this book.
Nearly all of the Lotus books on the market today are about using and understanding Lotus Notes from either a user perspective or from the angle of a beginning Notes Administrator. A tremendous need exists for coverage of advanced Lotus Notes topics for network administrators who use Lotus Notes. There are no books available today which provide this advanced coverage.
This book is a reference for Notes network administrators (who are already familiar with the Notes environment) on the many features of Notes 4.5/Domino. However, it certainly doesn't take an introductory approach to these features. The angle at which Lotus Notes Administrator's Professional Reference takes is oneof advanced level administration and integration techniques in a Lotus Notes/Domino environment.
The CD-ROM in this book contains many helpful tools and applications for network administrators to implement in and optimize their Lotus Notes environments. It will include the following:
-- software APIs for creating notes-enabled applications (i.e. OCXs, etc.)
-- notes application database samples
-- sample notes databases from "information providers" (i.e. subscriptions, etc.)
-- workflow databases developed by the authors
-- and much, much more!
