Description:
Details the life and work of Marc Chagall, born in Russia in 1887. It tells how he used memories of his as well as images from his dreams, to come up with magical, beautiful, and sometimes mysterious art. As a young man, Chagall went to Paris to study art, and was influenced by such artists as Claude Monet, Henri Matisse, and Pablo Picasso. He went back to Russia just before World War I, and met his wife. After the war, he moved back to France, but as World War II began, Europe was no longer safe for Jewish people, and he went to the United States. His wife died during this time. Chagall showed his sadness about this, as well as about the Holocaust, in his work. He painted until he died at the age of 97.
