Against intense opposition, she single-handedly led a successful crusade for the dissemination of birth control information both in America and internationally. In framing birth control as a medical issue and an individual's right to information, she was directly responsible for vastly improving health conditions for women in the twentieth century. In 1953, Sanger served as the first president of the International Planned Parenthood Federation.
