Milton Studies (volume38)
- Binding: Hardcover

Description:
This volume of ten essays is the first and only multi author collection of postmodern biographical study of Milton -- paving the way for a revisionist understanding of how, why, and where multiple presences of Milton appear in his writings in ways previously unimagined. As a reaction to traditional biographical study, which stresses the documented and documentary life of an author, the essays in the present volume instead probe the interior life of Milton by identifying its psychic traces in his writings, and then probing their significance. This type of study leads to citations of evidence and means of interpretation -- furnishing critical models for postmodern biographical study. Comprehensive in their coverage, the essays treat many of the poems in the 1645 edition, including Paradise Lost, Paradise Regained, and Samson Agosnistes.
