Description: Mini hydropower (MHP) is an increasingly important means of generating primary electricity using the water resources of small rivers, particularly in areas remote from the national grid. In accordance with the UN's definition MHP is classified as being where the installed capacity of the station is between 0.5MW & 2MW. MHP is a well-developed technology, sided by new design techniques, & is appropriate for both developed & developing countries. Part of the UNESCO Energy Engineering Learning Package, this text illustrates how MHP resources can be exploited to provide a clean, cost-effective & renewable energy source. Comprehensive coverage of the design & construction of an MHP station is given, including the financial feasibility of hydrology & hydroenergy design, as well as the geological problems encountered during mini hydro construction.
