Reading the Figural, or, Philosophy after the New Media presents original essays by D. N. Rodowick that are united by a common concept: "the figural". Inspired by the aesthetic philosophy of Jean-Francois Lyotard, the figural defines a semiotic regime where the ontological distinction between linguistic and plastic representation breaks down.
